On October 12, I embarked on the toughest challenge I’ve ever attempted: the Bass Lake Powerhouse Double Century, a 200-mile cycling course with over 14,000 feet of climbing near Fresno, California. From the moment I started training, I knew this ride was going to push me to my limits — and it did.
The Journey
The course was as beautiful as it was hard. Rolling hills turned into long, steep climbs, and every mile demanded focus, endurance, and grit. Despite months of training, this ride tested me like no other. I made it through over half the course before my body simply said, “Enough.” Exhaustion set in at mile 111, and though I couldn’t finish the full 200 miles, I’m proud that I took on this challenge and of the effort I gave.
This ride wasn’t just about miles, though — it was about purpose.
Why I Rode
My fourth annual #Ride4Riaan wasn’t just a personal challenge. It was a way to support the life-changing work of the Riaan Research Initiative, an organization that’s driving incredible breakthroughs in research and giving hope to families fighting Cockayne syndrome and other rare genetic diseases.
And here’s the part that truly blows me away: together, we raised nearly $15,000—the most we’ve ever raised for any cause. Knowing that these funds will directly fuel the Initiative’s mission kept me going through every grueling climb and mile.
A Community Effort

This achievement isn’t mine alone. It belongs to every single person who donated, encouraged, or cheered me on from afar. Your presence and support put a smile on my face during the toughest moments on this ride. You made this possible, and I’m beyond grateful to have such an incredible community behind me.
Looking Ahead
The Bass Lake ride may be over, but the journey continues. The funds we raised will make a tangible difference, and I know this is just the beginning of what we can accomplish together.
To everyone who supported me—whether financially, emotionally, or by simply believing in this cause—thank you. You’re proof that when we come together, we can achieve remarkable things.
Here’s to pushing limits, making an impact, and gearing up for the next adventure.
With gratitude,
Winty
